Tip 28-2011: HUD Emergency Homeowners Loan Program

(HUD Emergency Homeowners Loan Program)

Piedmont Housing Alliance (PHA) has been approved to offer homeowners a brand new federal program, the Emergency Homeowner’s Loan Program (EHLP.)  This federal program provides emergency mortgage assistance to homeowners who are involuntary unemployed due to the slow economy, and are at risk of a foreclosure.  Eligible homeowners can receive a 0% interest, forgivable loan that will pay past due mortgage payments.  The loan may pay up to 24 months of unpaid mortgage, not to exceed $50,000.

This program is only accepting application until July 22, 2011.  Accordingly, it is extremely important that if anyone is eligible for this Program, they need to immediately contact PHA (434-817-2436, Ext 105) to determine eligibility.

If you know anyone who is behind in their mortgage payments due to unemployment or medical conditions, please ask them to contact PHA immediately.  This Program could help save a homeowner’s home from foreclosure.  Although loan modifications, Short Sales and deeds in lieu are alternatives to a foreclosure, the best alternative would be to allow a homeowner to keep their house.  PHA contact information:

PS—According to an article in today’s (July 7th) USA TODAY, the application deadline may be extended, but as of right now the deadline is still July 22.
